Abbreviations used on this site
  • PA: Polar alignment.  The exact alignment of one of the mount axes in the direction of the earth rotation axis.
  • PAE: polar alignment error

PE: Periodic error. This is caused by mechanical imperfections in the worm drive of the mount. My mounts have a periodic error with an amplitude of about 30" and a period of 10min

  • PEC: periodic error correction.
  • DPP: Digital Photo Professional. Software for postprocessing.
  • NR: Noise reduction
  • DBE: Dynamic Background Extraction. A software technique to correct image gradients using Pixinsight
  • DFS: Dark Frame subtraction. Image calibration technique to correct for image errors: Amplifier Glow and hot pixels.
  • LX mode: Long exposure mode of the SC2 webcam. With my webcam the long exposures are triggered by parallel port signals.
  • DSS: DeepSkyStacker. Software for preprocessing and stacking
  • Neb2: Nebulosity V2. Very versatile software for many aspects of astrophotography
  • MTSCa: Software for GOTO capabilities using the MTS-3 controller
  • PHD: autoguiding software.
